Another FPL project is complete in New Brunswick.
New Brunswick has effectively tackled spruce budworm infestations, boosting forest health and sustainability. The forestry industry in New Brunswick contributes about $1.5 billion to the provincial GDP and supports 24,000 jobs.
In 2012, budworm infestation threatened to cost the provincial forest industry more than $1 billion. However, since adopting an early intervention strategy focused on proactive detection in 2014, New Brunswick has successfully halted spruce budworm outbreaks and defoliation. In 2016, the Restigouche area was swarmed with spruce budworm moths, but by 2018, the budworm population across New Brunswick fell by more than 90 percent and treatment areas drastically decreased over the years. New Brunswick continues proactively monitoring and treating as needed to maintain and prevent outbreaks.

Ontario
The FPL field operations team set a new benchmark by treating 64,400 hectares in a single day using 16 aircraft and 67 flights on a project in Ontario. This achievement surpasses our previous record of 43,000 hectares set in 2023. This milestone underscores our commitment to continuous improvement and exemplary project management. Newfoundland
Team FPL treated over 90,000 hectares in just 12 flying days, spending 16 days on the island. This operation featured seven treatment aircraft and two controller aircraft, ensuring precision and efficiency. A huge shoutout to the team who pushed through the long, tiring days to achieve this milestone. Team FPL’s hard work and commitment are the driving force behind FPL’s leadership in aerial treatment applications.
