New Brunswick is strengthening its wildfire preparedness.
The federal and provincial governments announced a significant investment of $40 million over the next four years to enhance New Brunswick’s wildfire prevention and preparedness.
- New Brunswick will receive $12.8 million from the federal government over the next four years, matched by the provincial government to a total of $25.6 million.
- New Brunswick will receive $7.2 million over the next four years from the FireSmart Canada program. The provincial government will match this funding for a total of $14.4 million. The FireSmart New Brunswick program will launch this spring.
The funding will upgrade firefighting equipment with advanced technology, train firefighters, launch FireSmart New Brunswick for community wildfire resilience, and support Indigenous firefighting crews like the Wabanaki Wildland Wildfire Crew. These initiatives are proactive steps to protect New Brunswick against the increasing threat of wildfires and minimize their impact.
The provincial government has invested over $63 million in fire suppression in the past decade, with nearly $9 million spent in the 2023 fire season alone. Thank you for keeping New Brunswick safe.
